6 Areas to Address for
Deep, Transformational Health
And why Deep Health is better than Dieting
When we go in search of a diet, plan, program, or podcast it's usually because we want to achieve a specific goal: lose 10 lbs for the wedding, run a marathon, slim down for the summer, etc. The diet market knows this and they deliver! You'll find hundreds of plans that promise to give you the results you want, and generally they work. This is where most of us have been our whole lives - jumping from one plan to the next, one short term goal to the next. But I want to challenge you to go DEEPER with me, to think beyond the short term goal. What happens AFTER you lose the 10 lbs, or "slim down" for summer, or finish that marathon? How do the things you did to accomplish that goal fit into your overall lifestyle, health, or long term goals? Can you continue to do those things or are they unsustainable or unrealistic? And did you actually get healthier in that process?
My mission here is different than most in this space - I'm on a mission for deep, transformational health, not just a short term result. I know from experience, both in my own life and others, that to truly transform your health you have to address MORE than just what you're eating or how much you're working out. In this podcast and in my programs we address the 6 areas of DEEP Health for results that last a lifetime:
1. Physical Health - how your body is functioning
2. Mental Health - your thoughts, emotions, self-talk, etc.
3. Spiritual Health - your connection to a deeper meaning, purpose, and ultimately joy
4. Relational Health - your relationships to those around you and the world at large
5. Environmental Health - where you live and what you have access to
6. Occupational & Financial Health - how you handle these 2 major sources of stress
The diets and plans you've been on have likely only addressed the first area - physical health. When the results don't last we get down on ourselves and frustrated, we feel like failures, but we've missed the lesson: we tried to change EVERYTHING by only changing ONE thing! If we want lasting, deep, transformational health we need to address the WHOLE you in the context of your WHOLE life!
This is why I created the Healthy Mind/Healthy Body Program. If you think you're ready for REAL change, click the link to check it out. Doors are opening soon so get on the list!

Ditch the Diets and Finally Make Peace with Food
If you struggle with yo-yo dieting then you know how hard it is to make any real lasting change. Unfortunately most women get stuck in the belief that being on a diet is the only way to lose weight and get healthy, and when they inevitably fail they’ve destroyed their self esteem, destroyed their relationship with food, and get stuck in a guilt/shame spiral that starts the whole process over again.
If you don’t understand how reprogram your mind that is sabotaging you, and reprogram your body for health, you’ll never make lasting progress.

Welcome back to the podcast, my friends, I'm so happy you're here with me. I want to take a second today to talk to you about deep health and what that means because that's what I do. And I want to just sort of put it out there to you so that you have a really clear understanding of why I'm here and what I'm doing, what the programs are that we're talking about, and what you would get out of that and why it's different than probably anything you've done before. So most of us, when we're looking for programs and podcasts and diets, we're looking to achieve a specific result, right, usually a short term result, something like I want to lose 10 pounds for the wedding, or I want to run a marathon or I want to get six pack abs. And most of the programs on the market know that that's what you're looking for. So the things that you see out there are geared toward that. So a 12 week Beachbody program or a 30 day detox or 90 days slimmed down or a prewedding slimmed down, right. They know you want that short term result. So that's what they're giving you. In this episode, I want to ask you to think about going deeper. What happens after you lose 10 pounds? Or after you finish that 12 weeks? Or after you complete that marathon? How does that short term goal fit into your overall health and lifestyle? How do you move towards something bigger, something that's more meaningful, more sustainable, and even more inspiring. Today, we're going to talk about deep health, transformational health, what that means and how you can get it. Let's go.

Welcome back to the no nonsense wellness podcast, the place for women who are trying to do all the things and stay healthy, sane and actually enjoy life in the process. Hey, I'm Tara, a trained therapist, a life coach, a nutrition coach and a fitness instructor. And I'm on a mission to help you take back control of your mind, health and life. Each week, I'll be cutting through the nonsense and getting real with you. I'll bring you the insight and information you need to take control of your weight and health. Find food freedom. And finally break free from the thoughts that are sabotaging you and holding you back. You, my friend are powerful, and the world needs you to start showing up in a bigger way. It's time to get unstuck and start moving forward. So let's pop in those earbuds, tie up those shoes. Let's walk and talk.

Here is what I know for sure. The state of your weight and your health is a reflection of every part of your life, not just how much you're eating or how much you're exercising. Let me repeat: our health is not just determined by how much you eat and how much you exercise in my very long journey of dealing with an autoimmune disorder. And the transition from being a college athlete to not being one, my changing body after kids. And now being in perimenopause, I can tell you from a lot of experience that weight loss and health is never just about calories or macros or workouts. Deep transformational health is about so much more than how you look or how you perform. It's about how you think how you solve problems, how you interact with the world and the people around you. It's the idea of helping the whole you thrive in your whole life. I am a firm believer that you cannot fully achieve lasting health or lasting weight loss results unless you address health on a deeper level. You can't just do the 12 weeks slimmed down and expect to stay slim down for the rest of your life unless you have an understanding of how that fits into your entire life unless other areas of your life are also working differently to help you maintain that. Does that make sense?
Yes, of course we're going to talk about eating a balanced diet eating wholesome foods, balancing sufficient exercise and sufficient movement and sufficient rest but it's held is also about clean air and clean water and clean products and positive experiences and helpful relationships and spiritual connection and emotional It's about so much more than just calories in, calories out or go work out. It's not just your body fat percentage. It's literally how you think how you feel, how you feel about how you think, how you live, how you connect with others, deep and transformational health is living with purpose, and with joy. And I don't know about you, but I have never been on a diet program, where I learned about living with deep purpose and joy. Most diet programs I've been a part of, I absolutely did not experience any joy in the process. Mostly, it was terrible, and I hated it. And even though I got that short term result, it didn't last. Why? Because I didn't address any of these other areas of me, nothing else changed except what I was putting in my mouth. And that's only going to change for so long. A lot of times when I talk to women about losing weight, one of the fears they have and maybe this is you too is that what if I lose the weight and put it back on? Right? Most of us, that's already happened? We've already done that.
What if I lose the weight and I can't maintain the weight? This is a legitimate question. And here's the answer. If you want to maintain that other areas of your life have to change, you can't just change the food and have that be the only thing if you really want to maintain this level of health that you've got other areas have to change. And those are the areas that we're going to talk about today. Because what I am on a mission for what I've created, what this whole podcast and program and coaching is all about, is how to go way beyond diet and exercise. Deep transformational health, that's what the no nonsense wellness podcast is about. That's what the Healthy Mind Healthy Body program is about. It's what I'm about. So I want to talk to you today about the six areas that we address, for total transformational health in the Healthy Mind Healthy Body program. And you will notice a theme that it's pretty much what I address in this podcast as well these six main areas.
The first area, of course, is the easiest physical health, right? You've been addressing this for a long time, physical health is going to deal with your food and movement, exercise mobility, right? Getting out of bed aches and pains, can you exercise? Do you have enough mobility to exercise? Pain, recovery, metabolism, basically the overall functioning of your physical body? Now that is no small task, right? If we are talking about the entire functioning of your physical body, that's a lot of things that we're talking about. But those are things that you need to understand, not just oh, I should eat more vegetables, like great. Okay, oh, I should eat less food. Okay, I should eat more food. Okay, but do you actually know how your body works, you know what that food is doing when it enters your body. Like these are things that we need to know. So we need to talk about physical health. That's the first area. But let's go deeper than that, right, because most diets stop there. Most diets are talking about food and exercise. And that's where they stop. Well, that's only one out of six areas. If you don't address the other sick, the other five, you're not going to get the result that you want. So let's go a little bit deeper.
Let's talk about emotional and mental health. That's our second area that we address. In this area. We talk about emotional and stress eating, we talk about dealing with stress, managing difficult situations, problem solving, focus, dealing with overwhelm your self esteem and your body image, your self talk, learning how to think learning how to problem solve, learning how to manage your mind, self management, mental clarity, we talk about all of those things. And we must talk about all of those things. We also talk about your intellectual well being so how do you become a lifelong learner? How do you address personal growth and development? If you're not growing, you're standing still. And standing still has another word that I like to say stuck. I don't like to be stuck. I don't want to be standing still. I want to be constantly growing. But how do we do that? emotionally, intellectually, mentally? We need to address those things. Right? You see if I want to be totally healthy, if I want this deep transformational health, I must address emotional and mental health. There is no way around it. Most diets don't address this, right? You got to count your calories with this one girl. And then you gotta go see a therapist, address your emotional and mental health. Okay, well, let's bring it together.
Now let's go a little bit deeper. In the third area. We're going to talk about spiritual health. How do you find purpose and meaning? What is your connection to something that's bigger than you? How do you understand your motivations and your own why's for doing what you're doing? Now this certainly can be your religious beliefs. But it doesn't have to be. I'm pretty transparent on this show on this podcast, I make no secret that my faith and my spirituality is in following Jesus and following the teachings of the Bible, but you don't have to be religious, quote, unquote, to be spiritual. And I want to put a challenge out there to those of you who call yourself Christians like I do. I want to challenge you that your spiritual life is way more than just going to church on Sunday. Right? Your spiritual life is much bigger than that your spiritual life is how are you connecting with God?
Okay, let me give you an example. So my spiritual life involves prayer. And it involves reading the Bible, and it involves going to church and it involves, you know, listening to podcasts, and it involves reading books, and it involves lots of things. But ultimately, it's this daily, like, constant presence in my life, the spiritual presence, always there, never not there. It's the driving force, right? It's Jesus take the wheel. Okay. So when I'm talking about your spiritual well being, what is your Jesus take the wheel? Maybe it's Jesus? Maybe it's not. But what is it? What is the driving force? What is the driving belief? And then how do you practice that every day? What does your spiritual practice look like? Do you have one, the lack of that practice, or the existence of that practice, whether you realize it or not, are driving your choices, and they're driving the quality of your life. So this is something that we cannot overlook, we must dig into this a little bit for each of us and figure out what that is. Now, for me, I like to be able to talk to a coach about that, like, so for me, it's Bible studies and friends and other Christian women who I get to have fellowship with, for you, maybe it's me, maybe you need a coach, maybe you need someone to help you figure those things out for yourself. Because if you lack that spiritual nourishment, that spiritual connection, however, that looks for you, I'm telling you, it's a hole. And sometimes I don't think we realize how big of a hole it is, until we start feeling it. And then we start understanding like, Whoa, that was really holding me back. I didn't even know that it was until I started addressing it. So we have to address this as part of our total health. Now, let me say, Have you ever been part of a diet program of any sort that addressed your spiritual health, I highly doubt it. So I want you to know that this is where I'm going with this whole thing, this podcast, this program, everything, we have to address all the pieces of you, the whole you.
So our first three areas we talked about are kind of about what's going on in your own head, your own brain, your own life. Now let's talk about you in relation to other people. Our fourth area is that social relational area. And this really deals with your sense of belonging. Are you part of a tribe? You know? Do you have your people? Who are your people, the quality of those relationships? How do you show up in those relationships? Who is your support team, your friends, your family, your spouse, your coworkers? And then on a larger scale? What is the relationship between you and the world at large? What are the things that are coming that you're allowing into your brain? What is your relationship with social media, with the news, etc? How are all of those views and all of those things that you're taking in? How are they affecting you, so your relationship with the people around you, but also your relationships with the world at large, I can tell you for sure. This is having a profound effect on your health, physiologically, your relationships physiologically change the functioning of your body, for better or for worse. Good, healthy relationships make your body function better, bad, stressful relationships make your body function worse, like scientifically proven like that is really what's happening. So this is something that you have to be able to address. Now. What diet Have you ever been on where they're like, Yes, eat this, don't eat that. Let's talk about your marriage. Like none, obviously. Now, I'm not saying you have to come and in a coaching session, talk about your marriage, but we will address absolutely any relationship that you want to bring up to coach about. But we have to look at you in relation to other people in relation to the world around you.
And speaking of the world around you, that's our next area that we discuss, and that is environmental. And the environment is not just physically where you are where you live, but that in general you feel safe, you feel secure. You have access to the things that you need, like healthy food and clean water and Health care and accommodations for disabilities, right? There's a lot of things about your environment that are really determining your level of health, in part based on your access to things, right? So can you eat all organic vegetables? Or can you only buy like these couple things that are organic, or you're not eating vegetables at all? Because you're eating fast food because you feel like you can't afford vegetables? Like we need to address all of these things in your environment. And then again, not just the physical environment, like where you are and what you have access to. But also, do you have clean air? Do you have clean water? What kind of cleaning products are you using? Are they off gassing things into the air that are toxic for you? Is there mold in your house, like there's a lot of little nuanced things, right, that we can talk about, that all environmentally are impacting you. This is a huge area. I mean, obviously, if you are feeling sick, and you can't figure out why, and then you figure out that you have a mold problem in your house, that's a big deal. Right, you're never going to get healthy unless that's addressed. So we have to take you in context, in context of the relationships and the environment in which you live, again, no diet that I've ever been on, is willing to do that is willing to tackle that.
And then the last area that we sort of indirectly talk about in specifically the Healthy Mind Healthy Body program. But the last area that you also really need to pay attention to in your own life is your job and your money. Now, our occupation and our financial situation are two of the biggest daily stressors that we all face, every single day, two of the most stressful things where we're working, and how we're feeling about that, and our financial situation and how we're feeling about that. Now, I don't have a specific module for this, I don't address it, right. I'm not, I'm not a financial advisor, to tell you how to invest or how to get a better job. However, can we talk about how we learn to deal with difficult people at work? How do we process difficult emotions about our jobs? And about our purpose? And about where we're going? And is this where I'm supposed to be? How can we change or improve our situation, all these things are going to be super important to your overall health and long term. So while we're not addressing directly whether you should invest in this, here's your financial plan. We are in coaching and in the program, we need to deal with how do you deal with the stress of these two things? How are you managing this? How are you overcoming this? How are you dealing with this? How are you having conversations about this? How are you dealing with the people involved in this so that we can try and mitigate and reduce some of the stress and also help you come up with a plan. Right?
Again, health is not just about the food if you are trying to eat healthy every day, but you go to a job that you hate that you feel like you're struggling and you can't buy the healthy food that you want to buy because you're working your butt off and you're not making enough money. Like we need to be able to talk about those things, and come up with some plans for those things. That's what coaching is. That's what we do together. So you can see then that all of these areas are essential if we're going to talk about long term health lasting results, lasting health, the healthiest you you can be for the rest of your life until you go see Jesus. Like, we don't want you to just lose 15 pounds, we want you to lose 15 pounds, keep it off, improve all the areas of your life, be happy, healthy, thriving, joyful, and living with purpose. For all the days of your life. That is my mission. That seems very ambitious when I say it out loud like that. But it's my mission for me. And so if it's my mission for me, then why can't it be my mission for you? If you look at this list, this deep health mission that I'm on is totally different than anything that you've done before. It's totally different than anything I've done before.
This Healthy Mind Healthy Body program, this podcast. It's a collaboration between you and me. It's all of these areas, it's addressing the whole you and not only that, but it's teaching you how to address all these areas. You're not going to have a coach Tara forever in your life. I certainly hope you don't need me for your entire life. What I want to do is teach you and give you the skills and give you the knowledge and give you the tools to address all of these areas for yourself so that you can coach yourself ultimately that's what we all want to be able to do. Be really effective coaches of ourselves. So here's the thing, when you get mad at yourself because you lost the weight and you put it back on when you get frustrated and angry with yourself because you failed again Remember, you tried to change everything, by just changing one thing, you tried to just change the physical area of your life, and then hoped that everything else would change too. And guess what, that's not how it works, you have to intentionally address all of those areas, you can't make lasting change unless you address all of those areas. So please don't get mad at yourself, please don't get down on yourself. Give yourself some grace.
I hope that I kind of expanded your thought here and expanded your thought process and expanded your mind to really have more of an understanding of health. And if you really want it, if you really want that thriving, joyful, purposeful, healthy, physically, mentally life, you have to address all those areas, you can do this, you can have everything you want, you can have all of this, but you have to maybe step back for a second, and stop worrying about the 10 pounds, and start worrying about how am I going to deal with all these other things, too. Let's have a plan. Let's have a strategy for this. If this sounds intriguing to you, if you're listening to this, and you're like, holy crap, you're right. I've always tried to just deal with the physical or maybe I saw a therapist to deal with the emotional, but I never really dealt with anything else. If you're sitting there thinking that just hop on the website, go to tarafaulmann.com/join, it's going to tell you about the Healthy Mind Healthy Body program, it's going to tell you all the modules and what we're talking about.
